The Singing Mountain was born in the heart of Osa, Rancho Quemado, Drake in the Osa Peninsula-Corcovado, Costa Rica. In its trails, walking, a wide variety of endemic and migratory bird species are observed according to the time or season of year, like Yellow Warbler, Golden winged Warbler, Baltimore Oriole, Fiery billed Aracari, Baird's Trogon, Yellow crowned Tyrannulet and Black cheeked Ant Tanager which is endemic. In The Singing Mountain we find variety of topography, waterfalls, pure air for nature lovers. Our visitors will have a unique experience, because walking through the trails your senses will intensify to the quiet of the woods, to watch the birds and know more of them. The Singing Mountain allows our visitors to be part of conservation and preservation of the forest and the water. We are lovers of the environment and our mission is to transmit to our visitors this relaxation, leaving the stress behind.
The Trekking Watching Birds Tours of The Singing Mountain consist in a walk through the trails, with 3 hours duration starting very early in the morning. There, you will be served breakfast with coffee while we tell you the story of the place. Then, our visitors will watch the birds in the different viewpoints, surrounded by the peace of the forest, later you will be given a delicious lunch to go back to the town or if you want to spend the night there, we also have a nice Cabin. The tour offers accessible trails by walking or by horse round trip to the town.

Our History
The story begins with the Gatgens brothers originating from Barranca Puntarenas: Roger, Antonio, Alvaro, Alis, Don Carlos Luis, and other relatives. In the 60's they entered the mountains of Rancho Quemado with the motivation to get land, but some time later, due to the difficult access (there were no roads) and having small children, the brothers decided to sell the land they had conquered. Only Don Carlos Luis remained with 200 hectares of forest; for this reason they are recognized as part of the pioneer families in the possession of Rancho Quemado lands. Don Carlos Luis shared his dream of appreciating the forest with his daughter Dooren Gatgens who was then 15 years old, told her that there was a mountain waiting for her in Rancho Quemado, and those words were recorded in her memory. Her father died, and she studied and works in medicine and raises her family in Orotina, but the curiosity to know her father's inheritance brings her here more than 50 years later, in 2016. That is when she knows the town of Rancho Quemado and its people, decides to stay weeks here to order the legal procedures of the land and takes advantage of participating in an INA course with her husband Edwin Sosa. This is how she learns of the rural tourism initiative promoted by the ADIRQ, and just in those days a German tourist accompanies her husband to the farm in the mountain. Then they see the opportunity to undertake this adventure tour service and later dream of establishing a lodging there in their "Montaña Dorada" (Golden Mountain), named thus giving allusion to the name of the lady and of the value and beauty that she discovered here. Dooren has other brothers who are part of the inheritance, along with her husband Edwin Sosa they already have their 7 adult children and it has been a challenge to start this project, while Dooren continues working in medicine to provide resources for the development of this family dream.
