Mariposario Casa del Bosque

Casa del Bosque Butterfly Farm focuses on raising and maintaining a diverse species of butterflies for the visitor to see. There are between 8-10 species in the butterfly house native to the Osa Peninsula.

The visitor will also be able to learn about the life cycle of butterflies, and metamorphosis, as well as 
and participate in the lab where the butterflies are born and go through the metamorphosis process.


Duration: 1 hour

of food from the zone are included.

Our History

​​It is owned by the Gonzales Rodríguez family, made up of Javier Gonzales Serrano, boat captain in Drake Bay, Yolanda Rodríguez Corrales, general manager of the business, and their children Josafat (13 years) and Josadac (7 years). It was born with the purpose of helping in the environmental education of children, young people and students of the community, and then, in the opportunity to receive foreigners for observation, enjoyment and research of butterfly sp​​ecies. It is about the formalization of the business through training with the UCR and the INA, and some donations are shown through the ADIRQ projects with the Corcovado Foundation and the UNDP, the public was opened in 2013 for tours with volunteer groups American, local visitors, school groups and foreigners who wish to learn about butterflies. On the basis of butterflies, food, gestation, host plants, etc .; In addition to some common natural disasters, such as winds, rains and storms that have affected the facilities of the butterfly greenhouse and the gestation room that have had to be rebuilt several times. It continues to grow and improve to provide a complete service, transmitting the experience and knowledge acquired with the effort and capabilities.
